Orthopedic surgeries are those that are associated with bone. Many of the procedures under this category are quite complicated and require a lot of experience and skill to make sure that patients do not end up with life-long crippling results. Because we want to ensure that our patients receive the best possible outcome, we occasionally refer them to board-certified orthopedic surgeons for surgical treatment. Do not fret, although we may not necessarily perform the surgical repair, we love the challenge and detective work involved in getting to that diagnosis!
Although we may not perform some of the more complicated surgeries, here is a short list of orthopedic surgeries we are prepared to perform: amputations, corrections of dislocations, temporary fracture stabilization (splinting, specialized bandaging), etc.
Please note: Cassells Animal Hospital is a proud supporter of the anti-declaw movement and we will no longer perform declaws in cats unless medically indicated. Instead, we offer complimentary nail trims to all of our regular cat patients (“regular patients” = has been seen in the last year for a complete physical exam).
